International Women’s Day

Culture Chats celebrates International Women’s Day

Culture Chats invites you for a community event on March 9th, 2019 at 11 am at the Tommy Douglas Library, 7311 Kingsway in Burnaby. The Culture Chats Women’s Writing Group is presenting a Reading of ‘everyday life stories through a multicultural lens’ at this free event celebrating International Women’s Day.  Drop-ins are welcome and prior registration is not required.

A collection of the writings will be released in the form of a booklet after the presentation. The stories paint a vivid picture of community life.

One of our group members, Blossom has this to say about her experience, “Culture Chats has provided me with an opportunity to feel at home in the company of women who have similar yet varied experiences; women who have left their homes in the hope of a better future. This group invites women who have an eye on their past and a hopeful outlook to their future…who are so brave to share their thoughts, challenges, aspirations and stories.”

Another writing group member adds, “The sharing and social interaction is particularly welcome because writing can sometimes be lonesome.  It is wonderful to get together on Saturday mornings for two hours to hone our writing skills and head home buzzing with a dozen different thoughts after our intercultural conversations”

The program benefits from the support and collaboration of our sponsors and esteemed partners. We would like to gratefully acknowledge the support of Burnaby Neighbourhood House, Vancity, Burnaby Intercultural Planning Table and Burnaby Public Library.   We are also grateful for the support and consultation of the professionals who have enthusiastically shared their expertise at our workshop sessions.
